Sarah
Sarah is the wife of Dr. James Durfey. She is Aztec Family Dental’s office manager, the bookkeeper at Aztec Rent Me, and sits on the board of directors for Alstrom Syndrome International.
Sarah has 3 children, 3 step children and 3 daughter in laws. Sarah loves working closely with her husband and 2 children (Maddie and Shay). Before becoming the office manager Sarah was a stay at home mom, scout leader, and heavy equipment mechanic/ salesgirl. In Sarah’s free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, gardening, taking care of her chickens, going to the Durfey Ranch in Utah, boating at Navajo lake, and laying in the sun.
Myra
Myra Blackburn began her journey as a dental hygienist in 1981 in San Antonio, Texas, where she attended the dental hygiene program at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). After graduating in 1983, she worked as a dental hygienist in several Texas cities, including San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and Odessa. After twelve years of mostly part time practice, she took an extended hiatus from dentistry, after moving from Texas to New Mexico. Myra took this time to be a full time stay-at-home mom to her two sons, Zak and Nate. She and her family enjoyed lots of outdoor sports and activities, including disc golf, mountain biking, camping, and soccer.
After Myra’s life circumstances changed in 2008, she eventually took a dental hygiene refresher course at UNM in Albuquerque, passed the Western Regional Board Exam, and gained her New Mexico dental hygiene license in January, 2011.
This ‘phase 2’ of Myra’s dental hygiene career has been the most rewarding, both professionally, and personally. Myra began her employment with James Durfey, DDs, at Aztec Family Dental Care in September, 2011, and continues to work at the practice currently.
Kim
As a dental hygienist, Kim provides preventive care for dental patients to prevent and maintain gum disease, cavities, and gingivitis. Originally from Gallup, she now lives in Bloomfield. Kim graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of New Mexico, and will graduate with a master’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of New Mexico in 2023. She has over 25 years of experience in the dental field beginning with assisting then dental hygiene and teaching. She’s certified by the New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care. With a very gentle and cordial demeanor, she’s very thorough and treats others with great care and respect. Kim’s hobbies include spending time at the lake, watching baseball, scrapbooking and quitting. Kim loves spending time with her husband, 2 sons and her 4 dogs.
Shay
Shay Durfey is our Assistant Office Manager at Aztec Family Dental Care. They have worked here since the height of covid in 2020. They started as a dental assistant. While in high school, they got their dental radiology license. Due to various health reasons, they started working upfront and grew to love it. They enjoys swimming, camping, and spending time outside with their wife.
Maddie
Dental assistant Maddie Priebe was born in Farmington NM. She grew up traveling the country and lived in Florida for most of junior high and high school years. She graduated from Aztec High school in 2023 with honors, and as a class representative. She participated in the San Juan County intern program in her junior year, and interned for Aztec Family Dental. After graduating she started as a full time assistant. She plans to continue her education at San Juan College and become a Nurse. When not in school or at work, Maddie loves spending time at the lake, sun tanning and pending time with her family and friends.
Jeana
Hi! Im jeana and I love working with Dr. Durfey and helping people maintain great oral health. I have 3 dogs that I love spending time with, an amazing boyfriend and I love making people laugh.
Korayma
Hello! My name is Korayma and I have been working at Aztec family dental since july 2023 and I really love it! I am very happy to be working with Dr. Durfey and this wonderful staff helping make people love their smiles! I am truly grateful to be a part of it! I graduated high school in 2023 and am now in college. I love to spend time with my family and friends and discover new places.
